We've all seen or most of us have watched "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and while these kinds of horror stories are out there - it shouldn't stop you from getting a wax. People online get paid to tell dramatic stories. It's not all real so don't believe everything you hear. When it comes to finding a new waxer, you should be doing your research for picking the right one. That is where I will help guide you into making this sound not so scary and start making your way to becoming more confident and smooth as ever.
When looking for a new waxer you should be looking for:
Feeling safe and comfortable with them
They should ANSWER all of your questions
Always wear gloves
They should NEVER under any circumstances comment on your body, hair or preferences.
Are they certified? This is important!
A thing to note just because a wax is cheap does not mean it's okay, double dipping should be avoided, the space should be 100% sanitary and quality products should be used. After all this is YOUR skin we are talking about! We all started somewhere and that includes myself as a waxer. I have been waxing for 10+ years now and that being said I've made some mistakes. For example the clients who used to come to me for my first round of brazilians in those early days - most likely got burnt as my wax pot was not very good and did not regulate tempatures very well. The second being I didn't want to spend the money on a quality wax. I was using wax that had pine resin in it - which most of the time causes irriation, redness, and lifts the skin. YIKES - speed up to now and I'm the most confident waxer with the products I have carefully chosen for my clients today.
I use a brand called Caronlab they are a company who belives beauty should make everyone feel good, they have constant ongoing education and the products speak for themselves. They use synthetic resins instead of pine resins which focuses primarily on skincare first and hair removal second making this safe for any client who sees me. The wax I use has no allergens which mean less reactions. It is color-free, fragrance free with pure ingredients. It also has a low working temperature for my client's comfort.
STEP BY STEP PROCESS: If you are getting a Brazilian Wax, I will always consult with you in my room first. I will then leave you alone for a moment while you take a femine wipe to use on your vulva and bum region. You will take the little towel I provide you for covering yourself and I will re-enter the room and start waxking from the pubic bone, thigh to vulva, the inner and outer labia and finish with the bootyhole. I will then let you get dressed, leave some nice after wax oils out to help prevent ingrown hairs and remove any wax residue leftover. I will re-enter the room and discuss your home care regime. It's best to use a serum to help keep the area moisturized and to prevent ingrown hairs. For all other areas of the body it's all very similar process. Also it's very very normal to sweat during a wax!
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE YOU? (before you re-book)
Brows/Lip - 2/4 weeks
Underarms - 4 weeks
Brazilian - 4/6 weeks (I can go eight now lol!)
Legs - 4/6 weeks
Chest/Stomach/Back - 4/6 weeks
OTHER IMPORTANT AFTER CARE TIPS:
First 24-48 HOURS after your wax:
No touching the area!
No SEX or cardio
No ocean, lake or pool water
No hot showers, hot tubs or saunas
No direct sun
WEEKLY:
Exfoliate 2-3X a week (this will help your waxer tremendously to get a cleaner wax) I know I've said a loofah works but you should use a exfoliating mitt! Loofahs carry a-lot of bacteria! You only need a mitt and soap!
DAILY:
WHY IS MY HAIR GROWING AT DIFFERENT STAGES?
I'm so glad you asked, our hair cycle has three different stages, so it takes several waxes to get smooth. Most of my clients start noticing results after 3-4 waxes. Sometimes we will need to extend the next booking, that way all the hair is coming up at the same stages. If we wax when all different stages are happening, you will most likely think I missed hairs - when infact those hairs were to short for the wax to pick up! But in the event that there is some hairs missed, please don't ever hestitate to ask why this happened! You pay a-lot of money, so never be afraid to speak up to your waxer!
CAN I WAX ON MY PERIOD?
Absolutely! I wax my clients on their period regularly. I just ask you use the wipe I provide to freshen up and put a tampon in. If you find your not comfortable, I will reschedule your appointment! I will make note that if you do proceed it is just a little more uncomfortable for you, as your cycle makes you a bit more sensitive. Pop and advil an hour prior to help this!
If this is you FIRST wax ever, I will fill you in on a few things you can do to help prepare you! I do this EVERY single day. For me this is NO different than waxing your brows. We will hang out, probably laugh and before you know it you will be out the door and you'll feel more badass than ever queen.
Tell me how you're feeling! It will help and I'm always here for you!
Read pre-post care instructions
Avoid caffeine & stay hydrated
Now that I've told you some things to help mentally prepare you, I will now tell you what you can do to physically prepare for a wax:
Grow the hair out for three weeks and make sure it's a quarter of an inch long
Exfoliate 24 hours prior to the appointment
Moisturize every single day
Come with clean and dry skin
If you are prone to ingrown hairs, I will always suggest not to touch it and use your ingrown serum, but if you do try to squeeze it, use a hot compress first to open the horny layer of the skin first. Also think about adding the Vajacial to your next Brazilian wax. You can read all about those here.
Your ingrown hairs could also be FROM:
Dead skin
Tight clothing
Picking at your skin
Your sweaty workout clothes
Your laundry detergent
I hope this helps you feel more educated and confident into find the right waxer and gets you excited about the whole process! That it in-fact is not scary! It doesn't have to be when you have the right waxer with the right products! The confidence is already there you just have to take the leap! The benefits of waxing are:
Brighter more even skin tone
Smooth skin for WEEKS
Soft thin, sparse regrowth
Helps reduce dark spots
Nobody has ever come to me for a wax and not re-booked. Why? because you will have spent less time on shaving and more time having fun with having only one appointment to worry about monthly. We will become friends and catch up, I am basically your therapist, and I truly love all the time we spend getting to know one another. Thank you for reading and I look forward to meeting you someday! Be sure to follow me on Instagram, where the laughs are never ending and the education is always on-going!
